Drawing inspiration from antique pilot’s watches held in its museum collection, Patek Philippe unveiled the Calatrava Ref. 5322 at this year’s "Watches & Wonders."
The new timepiece measures 41 mm in diameter and 11.85 mm in thickness—notably slimmer than previous iterations. Its 316-grade stainless steel case is fully polished and features a sapphire crystal, skeletonized lugs, and an exhibition case back; it is water-resistant to 30 meters. The outer edge of the case is adorned with a *Clous de Paris* (hobnail) pattern, adding a touch of refined elegance.
The dial—available in green, blue, or black lacquer—features a grained texture that transitions into a black gradient toward the edges, creating a captivating aesthetic. A snailed sub-dial at 6 o'clock houses a pointer-style date display. The "syringe-style" hour and minute hands, along with the Arabic numeral indices, are coated with Super-LumiNova, ensuring excellent legibility in low-light conditions.
Powering the watch is a bespoke, modified AL30-660SC automatic movement, which operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour.
This timepiece incorporates a date, week, and month display, as well as a 24-hour day/night indicator. A double aperture at 12 o'clock shows the current week and month—with the week displayed on the left and the month on the right—while a circular day/night indicator sits just below, clearly distinguishing between day and night.
Adjusters for the various functions are discreetly integrated into the case: the date adjuster is tucked into the side between 6 and 7 o'clock, the week adjuster is positioned at 10 o'clock, and the month adjuster is located at 2 o'clock. It is a premier timepiece that perfectly balances a contemporary aesthetic with a clear, highly legible dial.
